Guest #17, your order is ready.

Rating: 8.2/10

Burger - Really good burger with two minor faults. Not enough lettuce and one of those thicker and tougher parts of the tomato. But the bun was soft without a little toast, the burger and cheese were good. I wished I had a few more bites left when I got to the end of it.

Taste - 1.8 (out of 2)

Texture - 1.7 (out of 2)

Presentation - 0.7 (out of 1)

Fries - Unfortunately this location has been consistently undercooking the fries lately. These weren't terrible, much like the last ones. Some still had a bit of a crunch to them, but as you can see they are pretty pale. While I don't score on this anymore, they were seasoned properly.

Taste - 1.6 (out of 2)

Texture - 1.4 (out of 2)

Diet Coke - It was Diet Coke. Except in a can because I brought my own. Who wants to pay $2.50 or more for a soda?

1 (out of 1)

Years without a number and I get three in three months! Down to two left, maybe I'll be back here in a month or maybe it'll be years. Now I have to seriously think about what to do once I get them all. Side note, I do this so rarely now that I forgot to take the picture before starting to eat. There's a bite taken out of that burger.

Burger - The burger was good but didn't have any sort of standout flavor, good or bad. Texturally was very toasted, which would have also affected the flavor some. Visually looks like a decent burger but not a perfect ratio presentation wise.

Taste - 1.5 (out of 2)

Texture - 1.2 (out of 2)

Presentation - 0.7 (out of 1)

Fries - A bit too undercooked. Not the worst fries ever texture wise, but would have preferred more crunch. Normally this location is pretty spot on with their fries but lately have been hit or miss. I'm hesitant to go "light well" as it could result in days where they are drastically overcooked.

Taste - 1.4 (out of 2)

Texture - 1.2 (out of 2)

Diet Coke - It was Diet Coke. Except in a can because I brought my own. Who wants to pay $2.50 or more for a soda?

Another number so quickly! Quite late on this review, so it probably isn't that accurate unfortunately. I do distinctly remember thinking "definitely not as good as the new number I just got".

Burger - Great Burger. It looked fantastic and tasted great. Bun was the right amount of toasted. Only complaint would be that some of it, including the meat, was off center leaving quite a bit of bun only bites at the end. That's what prevents it from being basically a perfect In-N-Out burger.

Taste - 1.8 (out of 2)

Texture - 1.8 (out of 2)

Presentation - 0.9 (out of 1)

Fries - Also mostly great but could have had a little more fry taste. And it could have had some more crispy fries. But none of them were flaccid or outright bland. Just like the burger, very close to perfect.

Taste - 1.8 (out of 2)

Texture - 1.8 (out of 2)

Diet Coke - It was Diet Coke. Except in a can because I brought my own. Who wants to pay $2.50 or more for a soda?

The first new number in years is a very high rated In-N-Out meal, but not the highest! I want sure if #13 was actually an option and thought I might have to ask soon. Onto the next number, hopefully not years from now!

Burger - Everything about this burger was great, with one exception. Any bite that didn't have a decent amount of meat on it had for some reason just tasted meh. Otherwise the ratio of ingredients was perfect and it wasn't too messy.

Taste - 1.7 (out of 2)
Texture - 1.8 (out of 2)
Presentation - 0.8 (out of 1)

Fries - Needed a lot of talk added but they were cooked rather nicely. Some were maybe a bit too under and though I thought most were cooked well, some still had a dry/starchy texture.

Taste - 1.8 (out of 2)
Texture - 1.5 (out of 2)

Diet Coke - It was Diet Coke.

Possible first new number since the pandemic? It's been a long time that's for sure. Also, we're counting this as #69 because In-N-Out Burger doesn't actually do #69, because apparently we're all teenagers from the early 2000s. So since if they did do #69, this would have been it, I'm counting it. Not many more numbers to go.

Update and most recent number grid!

GRID IMAGE UPDATED 11/8/2025

It feels like it's been forever since I posted the last number grid. So much so that we're down to five (or four, depending on how you look at it) numbers. Also, I've skipped so many reviews of new numbers that I should probably retire this whole blog! I do have the receipts for those numbers though. I even got one of the numbers...that I couldn't keep because I washed the receipt and it got destroyed. So now I have to get that number again. But we're nearing the end...how much longer will it take? I will make sure to do reviews for all remaining new numbers, no more being lazy and skipping!

Burger - The burger was really good. I can think of two small down sides, not enough lettuce and the bun was probably a bit too toasted or maybe just dry. However, this was an overall top notch burger as the taste was really good despite the flaws. One of the better burgers I have had at In-N-Out in a while.

Taste - 1.7 (out of 2)
Texture - 1.7 (out of 2)
Presentation - 1.0 (out of 1)

Fries - Added a lot of my own salt but I thought they were cooked nearly perfect, if maybe just a tad overdone. Normally I have more than what is left in the picture so that's a good sign.

Taste - 1.8 (out of 2)
Texture - 1.7 (out of 2)

Diet Coke - It was Diet Coke.

1 (out of 1)

This was definitely one of the better In-N-Out meals I have had in recent times. Everything was cooked almost exactly how I like it and the taste was right there as well. If not for a small flaw here and there, it could have been the best so far. Also, due to the lack of picture taking lately I forgot to take the picture BEFORE eating...not sure if that's a first.

Rating: 6.4/10

Burger - This burger was almost as close to perfect tasting as you could possibly get. I think the slightly imperfect lettuce marred it a bit. The lettuce also marred the presentation but I very much liked the way the cheese and meat combination was clearly visible. I took a nice big bite out of that side to start with. Texture wise once again the lettuce gets in the way. Just in general the texture was all over the place with extra hard lettuce and some mushy bun. However, In-N-Out has been on fire when it comes to taste.

Taste - 1.9 (out of 2)
Texture - 1.2 (out of 2)
Presentation - .8 (out of 1)

Fries - I noticed that last time I said it is hard to make bad In-N-Out fries. They proved me wrong. I think these were the absolute worst fries I have had at In-N-Out. They were extremely bland tasting. Remember, I don't fault for lack of salt anymore so this was just tasteless in general. But that's better than outright tasting bad so you still get some score there. Texture wise they were hard and dry. Not like nice and crispy hard like a potato chip or something. Just like, really stale bread.

Taste - 1 (out of 2)
Texture - .5 (out of 2)

Diet Coke - It was Diet Coke alright.

1 (out of 1)

So it's been almost a year since my last new number. It was seven days away from being a year when I got this last week. Hopefully the next year picks up the pace a bit. I'll be updating the grid and maybe making it somewhat better in the near future. If my memory is right, I have 11 or 12 numbers left. Don't know what I'll do for #69 yet. Was thinking about asking them if there is any way their registers will allow them to force it.

Burger - Very good burger. Lots of lettuce, good distribution of ingredients for the most part. Texture was spot on and the taste about just about everything you want from an In-N-Out Burger. One of the problems with going so often is that I no longer know if a burger can ever be "perfect". I wonder if it's due to them just being so good in general that it would have to take something phenomenal to make me think "wow, this is better than ever". That said, I was very close to marking this completely perfect.

Taste - 2 (out of 2)
Texture - 2 (out of 2)
Presentation - .9 (out of 1)

Fries - Unlike the burger, the fries were not all that great on this visit. Still good, as it's hard to make bad In-N-Out fries, but the taste didn't come out all that much and the texture was one of the worst in recent memory. They were hard without being crispy. They weren't even well done they were just very solid. It was strange.

Taste - 1.3 (out of 2)
Texture - .7 (out of 2)

Diet Coke - Yay

1 (out of 1)

There is actually another note about the burger that I'm not including in the actual review. I got grilled onions on the side and tried a couple of bites with them. I have to so I don't think they really added much, so I'm not about to change my order after all these years. Also, sometimes the edges of the burger can be a bit crispy or charred. They are really good when that happens!

Rating: 9.15/10

Burger - Probably one of the best burgers I've ever had in my life. I ordered a mustard fried cheeseburger with no onions or pickles. There were very few things wrong with this burger. Texture wise the bun was a bit too toasted for my liking but I'm not docking too much from that score as I only noticed in a few bites. Also, this did not detract from the taste at all and I think flavor wise the burger was perfect. Presentation was pretty good other than the burger being lopsided (sometimes I feel this is intentional) and the lettuce being centered almost on the middle third of the burger.

Taste - 2 (out of 2)
Texture - 1.8 (out of 2)
Presentation - .9 (out of 1)

Fries - Normally I don't like the more well done fries. They came out slightly more done than I am used to but it worked this time. Mostly because despite being cooked more they weren't too hard, just less flimsy. And that's a good thing as often the only mark on In-N-Out fries are when they seem under done. Still, there were some extra crispy and dry fries, hence the drop in score.

Taste - 1.7 (out of 2)
Texture - 1.75 (out of 2)

Diet Coke - Nothing to be said here. As mentioned before I almost want to change the scoring system to account for the fact that the soda is perfectly fine 90% of the time. But probably too late for that.

1 (out of 1)

It was the first time my daughter has been to In-N-Out Burger in a long time and she actually ate some of her food! Admittedly it was probably only like one third of a cheeseburger and some french fries. And she loved the birds that were flying around and tried to boss them around by telling them to get down from places. She's awesome.

And a special shout out to Anthony Bourdain (@Bourdain) as I happened to go to In-N-Out on the same day I watched his recent related video.

Guest #69, will your order ever be ready?

The list is dwindling down. The only three number block left is 68, 69, and 70. However, I was informed this past week that In-N-Out Burger no longer uses #69. I think the reasons are probably obvious and I'm not sure whether to be happy or sad about it.

On one hand, it means there is one less number for my to get. But on the other hand, it means there will always be this empty spot in my list of numbers. Do I seek out the elusive #69 at maybe some random In-N-Out Burger place that never got the memo? Do I ask my local In-N-Out Burger to specially give me that number? Or do I just roll with it and never get #69?

Thanks to @BenHBailey for giving me this info. A quick Google search did confirm it. The last evidence of the number I could find was around 2009/2010.

Rating: 8.85/10

Burger - Fantastic burger this time around. Sure I got an extra tomato like always and sure the presentation isn't amazing but flavor wise it was basically perfect. As a matter of fact I think I'm going to rate it perfect on taste. Texture was up there as well, but with one downside. The end of the burger was soggy, which is something of a rarity for In-N-Out. I don't think the presentation was bad, but it certainly wasn't great either.

Taste - 2 (out of 2)
Texture - 1.8 (out of 2)
Presentation - .75 (out of 1)

Fries - This order was hit or miss. While last time might have been the first bad order of fries in a while, this was quite good (once my salt was added) in flavor. As for the texture, they were inconsistent. The beginning of the fries were really close to how I like my french fries. But as I got to the bottom they started to be more dry and hard.

Taste - 1.7 (out of 2)
Texture - 1.6 (out of 2)

Diet Coke - Once again there wasn't anything bad here. If I hadn't already reviewed everything including the Diet Coke, I'd think about changing my review system to only account for the burger and fries. But I guess it's a little too late for that.

It's been warm outside and as mentioned last time the tables get super hot. Luckily it was only two of us this time and it was easy enough to find a place inside for maximum coolness.

Updated remaining numbers!

So I just made a new post (see below or http://from1to99.blogspot.com/2014/09/guest-79-your-order-is-ready.html) and somebody requested I update the "matrix" that I've made a horrible rendition of. So I did. Someday I will do this up with maybe thumbnails of the entry/image and links to the reviews. That'll be fancy and awesome. Anyways, here is the updated matrix of numbers I have and do not have.

Burger - This is probably the first burger I've had from In-N-Out that had onions on it. Bear in mind that I did not order these onions. They were grilled onions and it seems that a few of them contaminated my burger as only about half of the burger had them and it wasn't a lot. But the onion flavor was definitely noticed. I wouldn't say it was an awful flavor, but I don't know if I could have an entire burger with that flavor throughout. All in all though I don't think it threw off the flavor too much, so still decent marks there. So the onions have an impact on taste and presentation (as some were visible on the outside of the patty). No texture impact from the onions and the texture overall was just average. The bun was a bit more toasted than I prefer. Presentation overall was not that great. It looks kind of thrown together and less streamlined than usual.

Taste - 1.5 (out of 2)
Texture - 1.5 (out of 2)
Presentation - .4 (out of 1)

Fries - After a string of fantastic french fries from In-N-Out all summer long, they finally hit a bad patch. I think they might have been slightly over cooked as they were a bit dry. And even though I add salt myself, they tasted pretty bland this time around. If I graded for presentation it'd probably get a perfect score there!

Taste - 1.25 (out of 2)
Texture - 1.5 (out of 2)

Diet Coke - Nothing negative that I can think about this time around

1 (out of 1)

The tables at my usual In-N-Out Burger location are seemingly breaking down. They sit in the sun all day long and this summer they have been (or at least in our minds) much hotter than usual summers. It literally hurts your butt sitting on the seats of the tables outside. And you can't rest your hands or elbows on the tables without burning them. This was in only 80 ish degree weather too! They should get new tables or put an umbrella at every table that is outside.

Guest #85...oh the horror.

Sitting in line today thinking that based on the numbers they are calling out we'll likely be in the 80s. Looking at my numbers I have something like 78-92 except I'm missing #85. So I let my buddy go ahead of me thinking "it's not like he's going to get 85". That was an illogical train of thought apparently, as he ended up with 85 and I ended up with a duplicate 87.

Oh what could have been (a review score in the high 8 almost 9 range most likely, as the fries have been top notch all summer and the burger was good).

Friday, July 11, 2014

Too bad...

I had the best fries I've ever had at In-N-Out Burger today. If it were a new number the review for the fries would have gone something like "these were perfect". They would have gotten the full points without hesitation.

Too bad it wasn't a new number...

Burger - Overall this was a fantastic burger. I almost couldn't ask for anything better but there were two minor issues. Number one is the presentation, as the burger was a bit lopsided. I tend to offset that issue by starting on the side where the burger has less presence, so that the final bites have everything in them. The second issue was the lettuce. Unfortunately there wasn't enough of it and there was a significant chunk of basically white lettuce. So the lettuce put a minor dent in the flavor and texture, but only ever so slightly. They even put only one tomato, just the way I like it! Seriously one of the best burgers I've had.

Taste - 1.9 (out of 2)
Texture - 1.85 (out of 2)
Presentation - .85 (out of 1)

Fries - Taste was good but brought down a peg by the texture. The texture was a bit dry on the inside of the french fries. They were overall very good fries though as it was a minority of them that had the dry texture issue. As you can see in the photo though they pretty much perfectly cooked. I should study the physics of cooking french fries so I understand why certain things end up the way they do.

Taste - 1.8 (out of 2)
Texture - 1.7 (out of 2)

Diet Coke - Nothing negative that I can think about this time around

1 (out of 1)

So I think the interesting thing about this is probably pretty obvious. Clearly I forgot about the fact that I got a new number before I started eating. If it wasn't for one of my coworkers asking if I got a new number I might have completely forgotten to take a picture. If anything that means my numbers are few and far between and I'm forgetting my routine. I wonder if making non-review posts might get me back into the groove?

Final wrap up...I've tallied the score and once again we hit a new high rating! Barely beat out the previous from two new numbers ago which was 9.05!

Burger - Pretty good. I lost some lettuce so the taste could have been better, but that is the fault of my little girl and not In-N-Out Burger. Presentation wasn't the best, which seems in line with most of my recent visits as burgers have been rather lopsided. A bit of the edge on the bun was over toasted, so some lost points there for texture. But overall a very good burger.

Taste - 1.75 (out of 2)
Texture - 1.6 (out of 2)
Presentation - .8 (out of 1)

Fries - They weren't amazing but they weren't bad. Texture wise they were almost right where I like them, but a bit too far done. Taste is generally affected when the fries are cooked a bit more than I like, and that was the case here as well. More of a dry potato flavor than a greasy fry flavor.

Taste - 1.5 (out of 2)
Texture - 1.7 (out of 2)

Diet Coke - Slightly too much carbonated water in the mix.

.9 (out of 1)

The interesting thing here doesn't really have to do with this order/visit. It really has to do with the fact that I'm holding out. I got a new number back in March I believe and I took so long to review it that I just decided to not do a real review. Then that turned into not even posting about it. Someday I'll get to it.

Rating:  9.05/10

Burger - Pretty good texture and taste overall. Actually the texture was near perfect. Rarely do I eat every single last bite, because usually the bun is over toasted or the ingredients are lopsided, but this entire burger was finished off. I guess that means high marks all around, just not perfect. After all, look at that poor lettuce (or don't look because it's hard to see that there even IS lettuce). Unfortunately the lettuce issue prevents the texture from being perfect.

Taste - 1.75 (out of 2)
Texture - 1.9 (out of 2)
Presentation - .8 (out of 1)

Fries - So close to perfect. I did have to add some salt (remember, we no longer dock points for that). Texture wise they were ever so close to being the best they could possibly be. Just a few of them were too soggy.

Taste - 1.8 (out of 2)
Texture - 1.8 (out of 2)

Diet Coke - This was fine, can't say anything bad about it.

1 (out of 1)

Wow, first new number in a LONG time. However, I've been keeping a secret. I had a really busy time the last new number I had and have subsequently not posted the review. I took some minor notes around the time so I could remember for the review, but by now it's been so long that I won't be able to go into detail or give it a real score. But be on the look out for what I'll all the "retro review" sometime soon. After all, I have to make sure I keep track of all of these. Otherwise I might think I'm behind one more than I actually am.

After tallying the score it turns out this beat out the previous high score by a slight .05 and that previous high score was part of the most recent post. Good job In-N-Out Burger!

Burger - Double-Single is my go to order now. Cheese was a bit lopsided and I ended up with quite a bit of bun at the end of the burger. Otherwise it was quite good and nothing else really stood out.

Taste - 1.7 (out of 2)
Texture - 1.8 (out of 2)
Presentation - .7 (out of 1)

Fries - These fries had some of the best texture I've had in a long time. Although the ultra crispness was accompanied by a bit of dryness. They weren't as flavorful as I would have liked though.

Taste - 1.4 (out of 2)
Texture - 1.75 (out of 2)

Diet Coke - Can't really remember either soda (which probably means they weren't bad), so both will get a 1 by default.

1 (out of 1)

Interesting note would be that it was crazy windy, which is why I am holding the receipt in the picture. After going to In-N-Out basically once a week for 4+ years, I'm running out of interesting things.

Rating: 9/10

Burger - Same as the previous week but mustard fried this time. Although I don't think I really could taste the mustard fried on this burger, I still feel it was slightly tastier than the previous week's burger. Presentation was mostly good and texture was as it should be.

Taste - 1.8 (out of 2)
Texture - 1.8 (out of 2)
Presentation - .9 (out of 1)

Fries - Better than the previous weeks fries although very similar. I think they tasted slightly better and the texture was just a little less crisp/dry which was good. They weren't soggy by any means, but they weren't as close to well done as the previous meal.

Taste - 1.6 (out of 2)
Texture - 1.9 (out of 2)

Diet Coke - Can't really remember either soda (which probably means they weren't bad), so both will get a 1 by default.

This was a crazy clear sky and the sun was beating down on the table. I was squinting often and couldn't really rest my hands/arms on the table as it was too hot. I honestly thing the heat caused me to enjoy the meal slightly less. Also, this was easily the slowest I've ever seen this In-N-Out during lunch time. More than half of the tables were available at the time of ordering. That's nearly unheard of. Without looking back at previous entries, I think this might be the highest scoring meal since switching to the In-N-Out specific grading system.

Rating:  7.4/10

Burger - The burger, which I'm still going with the Double-Single these days, was pretty good. Removed one of the tomato slices like usual. It could have had more lettuce...maybe I should go back to getting extra lettuce.

Taste - 1.6 (out of 2)
Texture - 1.7 (out of 2)
Presentation - .7 (out of 1)

Fries - Unfortunately, even with salt, these were some of the most bland In-N-Out french fries I've ever had. Their texture was mostly good so it's a real shame the taste didn't match the standards they've set for themselves.

Taste - 1.2 (out of 2)
Texture - 1.9 (out of 2)

Diet Coke - One of the rare cases where I had issue with the soda. Seemed like the carbonated water to syrup ratio was off.

.4 (out of 1)

All in all it was one of the lower quality overall meals at In-N-Out. On the other hand I had a great day out with the two most beautiful ladies in my life, my wife and daughter. So maybe it was one of the best meals?
