Overall Rating: 7.65/10

It's been a while, and it's not from lack of trying either. I still pretty much go every week and every week I am usually like one number away from an original. Maybe this is the beginning of a hot streak.

Burger - I tried something new today, extra spread. It wasn't bad, but it's not something I'll likely want again. It made the burger taste a bit more tangy (or sour). It actually could have been the not all the way ripe tomato though. Otherwise, the current tried and true held firm. Texture wise this was a great burger. And presentation gets near top marks as well. Only one tomato which is always good because it means less work on my part. Unfortunately the extra spread made the last few bites a bit sloppy.

Taste - 1.4 (out of 2)
Texture - 1.9 (out of 2)
Presentation - .9 (out of 1)

Fries - So I tried well done fries again for only the second time. If they were always like my first time (which unfortunately wasn't a review) then I might always get them. But this time they were extremely well done to the point where they were just crunch and no soft inside. I've come to the decision that I'd rather have the occasional limp batch of fries than the completely charred batch of fries. And while this may be my fault for trying new things, these fries still get relatively low marks on taste and texture.

Taste - 1.45 (out of 2)
Texture - 1 (out of 2)

Diet Coke - 1 (out of 1)

There wasn't much interesting. This was one of my rare weekend visits though. And I did notice when posting this that my last number was #9. I'm curious if that was my first sequential original numbers in a row or if I've done it before.

As I'm writing this review I've already given everything the proper score. I have yet to tally that score though, but I have a feeling it will be my highest rated meal yet.

Burger - This is pretty much how I wish In-N-Out was every single time. The decision to get extra lettuce that one fateful trip a few months ago was the best In-N-Out related decision I've ever made. It's yet to fail me and makes my burgers so much better, mostly because I never run out of lettuce. Thinking back on this burger I'd say it probably could have used a bit more sauce. Other than that the only issue was the one or two bites of bun leftover at the end that I wish I had meat and cheese to go with. Probably the closest to perfect a burger has been in the two years I've been doing this. Soft, yet toasted, bun. Crunchy lettuce. The tomato was ripe throughout. Very good, makes me want to go and get another one right now.

Taste - 1.9 (out of 2)
Texture - 1.9 (out of 2)
Presentation - .85 (out of 1)

Fries - You know how texture can affect taste? That happened here and it's likely the reason these fries didn't get a perfect score. The fries looked slightly underdone, but eating them they were almost perfect. I think if they were cooked for five to ten seconds longer they would have been the perfect fries. Crispy on the outside (for the most part) and soft but not over dry on the inside. I did put some pepper on them myself, but I can't fault In-N-Out for no pepper anymore so that didn't come to play in the score.

Taste - 1.9 (out of 2)
Texture - 1.9 (out of 2)

It would have been funny if the food was delicious and the drink tasted horrible, but it stood up to what I consider quality Diet Coke.

Diet Coke - 1 (out of 1)

Had a co-worker who hadn't tagged along on any of my In-N-Out visits come with today. It was pretty busy inside despite the drive-thru lane being almost empty. Other than that not much to say, sorry. Actually, about Diet Coke, this is something only slightly related to In-N-Out. Some other local places have (either since they opened or just recently gotten) the crazy Coke machines with all sorts of flavors that come from the same spout. If I rated Diet Coke from those things it would get like a .6 or .7 every time. So I'm glad In-N-Out still has their good old regular dispensers.

Burger - This burger is why the In-N-Out ratings system was designed. Compared to every other burger in the world it was great. Compared to the best In-N-Out Burger ever, it was just average. There was too much thick/white lettuce. The double tomato is more of a presentation issue, not sure if I should really be deducting for that anymore. And I had probably two or three full bites of bun left over at the end. But other than those minor issues, the burger was tasty and what you'd expect from In-N-Out. Just nothing standing out to make it the best one ever.

Taste - 1.65 (out of 2)
Texture - 1.6 (out of 2)
Presentation - .8 (out of 1)

Fries - These were some really good french fries. When I first got them I was afraid they would be limp and mushy because of their light color. However, they ended up being firm, crispy, and not overly dry on the inside. Texture wise they were almost about perfect. And while I didn't need any more salt and pepper for once, the taste was unfortunately not at the same quality as the texture. Still, some of the better fries in recent memory.

Taste - 1.75 (out of 2)
Texture - 1.85 (out of 2)

Diet Coke - 1 (out of 1)

So pretty much nothing interesting happened, but I did notice for the first time that In-N-Out has a system in place for order of ingredients. I guess that's to be expected but I hadn't really noticed before. It appears to go, from top to bottom, bun, cheese, meat, lettuce, tomato, sauce, bun.

I'm on a roll!

Burger - I've really grown to love the extra lettuce. Overall this burger was very good but not amazing. No one thing stood out as being something fantastic taste wise, but every part of the burger was well above average and when put together made for a pretty delicious cheeseburger. Presentation was spot on in my opinion, nothing lopsided or falling out. Which is strange because I did end up with probably two full bites of everything except hamburger at the end. Texture was almost as perfect as can be. I honestly can't think of anything that was wrong with the texture so I'm going to have to give that part full marks. Taste wise, like I said everything was above average but nothing jumped out at me. At In-N-Out that still blows every other burger joint away though.

Taste - 1.8 (out of 2)
Texture - 2.0 (out of 2)
Presentation - .9 (out of 1)

Fries - I liked the fries quite a bit. There weren't as crispy as I would have liked but overall the texture was pretty good. And the taste was fairly standard and once I put the salt and pepper on the were pretty good. Much like the burger it wasn't perfect but it was well above average for In-N-Out.

Taste - 1.8 (out of 2)
Texture - 1.7 (out of 2)

Diet Coke - 1 (out of 1)

Nothing really interesting. Was a warm day. I did eat the burger while it was still in the wrapper. I mean, I didn't eat the wrapper as well, but the extra lettuce has been fairly messy lately so I decided to not remove it completely. Worked out for the better. Fun fact: I resize my images to 29% of their original size. I think I've done a few that different %, but for the most part it's always 29%.

Burger - Once again extra lettuce. My order these days is now a Cheeseburger no onions, extra lettuce, mustard fried, no pickles. I'm going to stick with this for a while imagine, but I think from time to time I might have to take out a bit of lettuce. Not only does too much of it mask the other flavors but it can get messy pretty quick. Still, I really do like the extra lettuce. I can't give near perfect marks on taste though, due to the masking of the flavors with too much lettuce. The texture of this burger was pretty spot on. Nothing was too crunchy or soggy at all. Almost every bite was perfect. Although I did have a few extra bites of bun leftover at the end. Presentation wise the extra lettuce also makes it hard to judge, but I can't fault them for not being able to put that much lettuce on and make it perfect looking. I mean, it's like a salad between a two buns.

Taste - 1.65 (out of 2)
Texture - 1.9 (out of 2)
Presentation - .8 (out of 1)

Fries - Probably some of the worst fries I've ever had at In-N-Out, which is a shame. They were limp and flimsy, no crunch whatsoever. Not only that but despite putting salt on them they didn't have hardly any flavor. They weren't "gross", just really sub-par.

Taste - 1.25 (out of 2)
Texture - 1.0 (out of 2)

Diet Coke - 1 (out of 1)

You want something interesting? Yeah, I can't do that today. Nothing noteworthy was seen or heard.

Burger - Extra lettuce is now standard as part of my order. And as usual mustard fried is there as well. The burger was really good, but extra lettuce does get a bit sloppy as the lettuce doesn't really have an anchor and falls out quite a bit. Nothing extra special to say about this burger other than I had a bit more than usual left over at the end. Just bun really and small bits of lettuce and tomato, assuming some cheese in there as well. But once I'm done with the meat I don't generally eat the rest as it has more of a burnt grilled cheese taste. I've always found that strange.

Taste - 1.8 (out of 2)
Texture - 1.75 (out of 2)
Presentation - .8 (out of 1)

Fries - These were some of the best fries in quite a long time. I had intentions of trying well done fries, but as my wife was with me and we were sharing I decided to appease her and just get normal fries. Luckily for me they were actually quite a bit more done than they have been in the last few months. They ended up nice and crispy on the outside but still soft on the inside. And as always, salt and pepper had to be added.

Taste - 1.7 (out of 2)
Texture - 1.95 (out of 2)

Diet Coke - 1 (out of 1)

Nothing exciting. Most interesting thing I saw were two cops and one was definitely tired as he was resting his head on the table. Well more like on his arm, but his arm was flat on the table.

Wow, totally forgot to write this over the weekend. Good thing I actually remember most everything about the meal. Unfortunately though there was nothing of interest outside of the meal, so this will just be a food review.

Burger - I tried something new again, but nothing as extreme as a double-double. This time I got extra lettuce and it was totally worth it. One of the problems I find w/ In-N-Out is the inconsistency with the lettuce proportions. Getting too little lettuce makes the burger just take like ground beef and american cheese, or sometime like a grilled cheese. So yeah this was really good but next time I will make sure to go back to mustard fried as well. I kind of got used to that slight mustard taste and found myself missing it. Texture wise everything was pretty good. Nothing was over cooked or soggy. Almost perfect. Presentation could have used some work though. The lettuce was put on sloppily so I had to adjust its position multiple times and there were a few bites that seemed to be more on the meat and cheese side of the ratio than everything else. But otherwise a really good burger.

Taste - 1.65 (out of 2)
Texture - 1.8 (out of 2)
Presentation - .7 (out of 1)

Fries - Sadly the fries didn't live up to the burger. Actually the taste was pretty good but offset by the lack of seasoning and the fact that weren't nearly done enough. None of the full fries were crispy at all and I had to eat some of those really small pieces just to get some crunch.

Taste - 1.65 (out of 2)
Texture - 1.4 (out of 2)

Diet Coke - 1 (out of 1)

One thing I will say is that I am thinking about removing the proper amount of S&P on the fries as part of the criteria. The reasoning is that in all the times I've been doing this I think there has only been a perfect amount once or twice. It's so rare that using it as part of the judgement is likely to end up with never getting anywhere near a overall perfect score for the meal.

I decided to try something that I haven't tried in many years, a Double-Double. And here are the results...

Burger - Well, I now remember why I don't get the Double-Double. There is way too much meat and cheese on that thing. And you can taste the burnt parts of the meat more and all the extra cheese sticks in your mouth. At that point you can barely taste the bun, lettuce and tomato. So how do I rate this thing? Well, it was messy. It tasted OK overall. Maybe I should have left the extra tomato on this time. Could have used more lettuce as well to offset all the meat. It's not that the burger itself was gross, I just felt gross eating it. Presentation wise it looked fine, nothing out of the ordinary. Picking it up I instantly could tell it was heavier than a normal cheeseburger. Texture wise it was mostly fine. Maybe a bit one note because there wasn't much lettuce so everything was fairly soft. Man, I'll never get one of these things again.

Taste - 1.4 (out of 2)
Texture - 1.5 (out of 2)
Presentation - .8 (out of 1)

Fries - On the other hand, these fries were near perfect. They had the great crispy texture on the outside but not dry on the outside. I added salt and pepper but I'm considering no longer taking seasoning into consideration as part of the score as I'm almost always adding more.

Taste - 1.8 (out of 2)
Texture - 1.9 (out of 2)

Diet Coke - 1 (out of 1)

I don't think there was anything interesting. I should have taken a picture of the dog at the table next to us. He was giving me a look almost the entire time. Also, the guys at the counter are starting to remember me. One mentions my "cool" shirts and this time the guy asked where I worked. Apparently he's neighbors with a coworker of mine.

I'm a few days late on this one, my bad. I hope it doesn't affect the accuracy of my review.

Burger - It was nothing extraordinary but it was still pretty good even by In-N-Out standards. Not enough lettuce for my liking and it was a fair bit lopsided as I probably had a good three bites of just bun at the end. Well I would have if I bothered to eat the just bun bites. I do remember the bun edges being pretty toasted to the point of being hard.

Taste - 1.75 (out of 2)
Texture - 1.6 (out of 2)
Presentation - .75 (out of 1)

Fries - These were some of the absolute best fries I've ever had at In-N-Out. Honestly, outside of maybe needing a bit more salt and pepper there wasn't really anything wrong with them. Texture was great, slightly crispy on the outside and still soft on the inside but not overly dry either.

No In-N-Out Burger isn't closed. And yes I still go every week. It has simply been almost two months since my last original number. So let's get this show on the road!

Burger - I've been mixing it up lately between regular and protein style (always w/ mustard fried though). Today I decided to go regular and I did not regret it. It was one of the better burgers I have probably had in months. Really there were only three specific things wrong (other than the double tomato but that doesn't count). First, the edges of the bun was too crispy. This is why I have tried light toast before but unfortunately I'm not a fan of that either. Second, there wasn't enough lettuce. I like a hefty amount of lettuce on my burger and there wasn't even enough to last the whole meal in this one. Lastly, the tomato was a bit hard. It didn't taste bad in any way though, just towards the center was a bit tougher than I like. Despite all of this though it was delicious and was probably the most mustard I've had on the burger since I've been ordering mustard fried.

Taste - 1.8 (out of 2)
Texture - 1.6 (out of 2)
Presentation - .8 (out of 1)

Fries - The fries were also some of the best I've had in a long time. I didn't put any salt or pepper on them, which rarely happens. They tasted great to me and I think the only thing that would have made it better is if they were a bit crispier on the outside. While they weren't all that crispy they also weren't too flimsy/mushy either, not like a wet noodle or anything.

Taste - 1.9 (out of 2)
Texture - 1.7 (out of 2)

Diet Coke - 1 (out of 1)

So this meal almost reached a 9 but couldn't quite get there. Sometimes I question how much I really like In-N-Out and then I have a meal like this and it reminds me why I go every week. So was there anything interesting this time? Nothing interesting really, but it was the first time sitting at the stools with more than just myself during a lunch visit. I like to get my seats quick so when I saw they stools were empty I just sat down. Sure we probably could have found a table eventually, but why hassle when you can just relax?

Well it's been a while. So long in fact that I hope I remember the rating system I made, as I think it only got used a couple of times so far. The previous original number was actually July 22nd. Let's hope now is the start of another new number streak.

Burger - Sometimes I wish my duplicates were original numbers because they are so good that I want to review them. And sometimes I wish the original was a dupe because it's nowhere near as good as it could have been. The burger wasn't actually that bad, but the bun was super toasted and I'm not a fan of the crunchy bun. They always just feel/taste stale to me. When eating the center of the burger and not the edges everything tasted great. It was a bit messy as well, but I don't usually consider that in the rating because that's probably more "user error" than anything.

Taste - 1.7 (out of 2)
Texture - 1.25 (out of 2)
Presentation - .9 (out of 1)

Fries - The fries were pretty good today. Of course that was after putting on salt and pepper. But texture wise and "base" flavor they were good. Slightly crispy on the outside but not too dry on the inside. Even I'll admit sometimes the fries can be very blah, but this was not one of those times.

Taste - 1.5 (out of 2)
Texture - 1.8 (out of 2)

Diet Coke - 1 (out of 1)

Unfortunately the first new number in a while was not accompanied by anything interesting. There wasn't even something worth noting to the smallest degree. What a shame.

Overall Rating: 9.25/10

To start, not only is eight my favorite number but this is the 50th number meaning I have officially passed the half way mark to the goal! It's been one year, two months and 11 days since this all started. Which means I am averaging a new number once every 8.7 or so days. Otherwise known as "slow". Now on to the review...

Burger - This was a very good burger. Once again I could taste some of the mustard. The tomato was good as was the lettuce. The bun wasn't overly toasted, the burger wasn't over done. Really the only think I could say negative is that the lettuce was piled on directly in the center, making some rearrangement necessary to spread it out. And I'm not sure why this ended up happening, but I probably had a few good bites left but no meat to go with the rest of the ingredients.

Taste - 1.95 (out of 2)
Texture - 2 (out of 2)
Presentation - .9 (out of 1)

Fries - Cooked better than they have been recently and the initial flavor was pretty good. I only ended up putting a small amount of salt and pepper on them. Some of the better fries I've had recently. Texture wise there was a few soggy ones, but taken as a whole it was a good day for the fries.

Taste - 1.7 (out of 2)
Texture - 1.7 (out of 2)

Diet Coke - 1 (out of 1)

So wow, the best score since the start of the In-N-Out Burger scale. Last time I was saying how we could come close to breaking the 8 point mark and here we go a bit over 9! It really was a quality meal. Only interesting thing was some guy from New York came outside to ask some other customer what kind of dog she had. She asked if he was from Boston...I wonder if that's insulting to a New Yorker.

Apologies for the tardiness of this review (the meal was two days ago). Also, I'd like to preface the review by saying the most exciting thing to happen was the fact that I nearly ripped my receipt in half when I got home. I try not to crumple the receipts but all I really do is put them in my back pocket so I guess it was bound to happen sometime.

Burger - I have to say this was one of the best burgers I have had in recent times. Though there were issues, they were relatively minor in the grand scheme of things. For instance, the tomato wasn't ripe and the center of it was fairly hard. Also, as you might be able to see by the picture, the lettuce wasn't that great either as it had a large hard white part. Oddly enough though this didn't seem to affect the texture too much. However, flavor wise this burger was great. I tasted the mustard grilled for only the second time since I've been getting it and I really think it adds to the burger.

Taste - 1.9 (out of 2)
Texture - 1.5 (out of 2)
Presentation - .8 (out of 1)

Fries - Cooked better this time than the last few times. They weren't very crisp but at least they weren't soggy and flimsy. Nor were they dry. A bit crispier and they might have been near perfect texture wise. Flavor wise they needed some salt and pepper but not bad overall.

Taste - 1.5 (out of 2)
Texture - 1.6 (out of 2)

Diet Coke - .5 (out of 1)
Was one of the rare times the syrup/water ratio was out of balance.

Oh man, if the Diet Coke tasted like normal this would have been an over 8 on the In-N-Out scale. Maybe next time.

Another new number so soon. We're coming up on 50, otherwise known as the halfway point.

Burger - The burger was pretty good this time around, but nothing about it really shouted out "hey this is delicious". It was technically sound with minor faults. All the ingredients were placed on the burger properly but I did end up with one bite of just bun left. Again, taste wise nothing popped and I would say the biggest negative would be the the effect that a slightly over toasted bun has (I call that the grilled cheese effect). That slightly over toasted bun comes into play with the texture as well as it makes the edges of the bun pretty stiff. A lot of less-green lettuce as well, causing a slight dip in taste.

Taste - 1.6 (out of 2)
Texture - 1.5 (out of 2)
Presentation - .9 (out of 1)

Fries - I have to say these might have been the worst french fries I've had at In-N-Out Burger. But this is why this new scoring systems exist, because the worst In-N-Out fries are still better than most other fast food fries. Taste wise they were actually pretty good. I added pepper but no salt. However, they had some atrocious texture. They are even more limp and "soggy" than the last visit. The only thing that could have been worse would have been completely under-cooked fries that were still frozen or cold. Somehow these weren't under-cooked, just had a really bad texture. The good taste really saved this part of the meal.

Taste - 1.6 (out of 2)
Texture - .5 (out of 2)

Diet Coke - 1 (out of 1)

As far as interesting goes there wasn't much as we sat outside. Thought this was a dinner visit. And on the Fourth of July, which I found it odd that In-N-Out was open on as they are closed most holidays.

Welcome to the new ratings system. The overall rating is the ratings in each category put together totaling a score out of 10. Keep in mind this means the "average" score will be lower than it has been, as I believe I haven't rated a meal lower than 7.8 previously. I'll continue to put the overall at the top as I'm sure some people just want to see that and not the details. Onto the review...

Burger - I actually tried something new this time, extra spread. Was it worth it? Not really. It made the burger an awful lot more soggy than usual. On the upside the bun had a great texture, it was nice and soft without feeling like it wasn't toasted. The extra spread gave a couple bites a bit of an extra sour taste which I wasn't sure if I liked or not. On the presentation side everything looked fine and was centered properly, but I think the extra spread hurt it a bit.

Taste - 1.5 (out of 2)
Texture - 1.5 (out of 2)
Presentation - .9 (out of 1)

Fries - Taste wise the fries were OK and as is the norm I had to add some salt and pepper. Texture wise they were really flimsy and mostly mushy. I usually don't eat the super skinny crispy bits but I ate a few this time just to give myself some crunch.

Taste - 1.5 (out of 2)
Texture - 1 (out of 2)

Diet Coke - 1 (out of 1)

Was there anything interesting? Not really, but it was the busiest I've seen this In-N-Out in a few weeks. The most interesting thing was coming up with the new ratings system.

Rating: 9.15/10

Not quite a 9.25 for only a few reasons. First, the fries were pretty good, but still needed plenty of S&P applied. Also, while they were some of the better cooked fries they still weren't perfect. But taste is the predominant factor here so I couldn't mark off too much cause they still tasted good.

The burger was mostly just right. Good amount of lettuce, the tomato was ripe, everything was centered properly and I only ended up with maybe one bite of just bun leftover. Though for some reason it did seem a bit messy. Maybe if I had an easier time eating it I would have rated it higher. Then again the messiness and/or difficulty in eating properly could have been because of my mutilated finger.

On that note the burger did have something interest. For once I tasted the mustard part of the mustard fried. I have to say I liked tasting just a hint of mustard underneath the meat and sauce flavors. I hope it comes through in future orders.

I'm wondering if I should implement something new in these reviews to give them more meat. Before when there was at least one new number a week it was ok to be brief. But now getting a new number every two weeks at best they just feel lacking. Especially when nothing of interest actually happens during the visit.

Hey look at that, a bun! Giving this meal a fairly low score mostly because it just didn't "stand out". There wasn't much memorable about it. The lettuce wasn't very green. The secret sauce was actually kind of sour tasting, like maybe too much pickle? Also, I tried the bun with "light toast" this time, but it was barely more toast than "no toast". As a matter of fact I wouldn't be surprised if they misread it to be "no toast".

The fries were actually pretty good despite looking like they were undercooked. I didn't end up using the salt packet, though I did put some pepper on them. And the soda was as it should be.

Here's an interest note somewhat related to this visit. It's likely my last In-N-Out trip for 3 weeks as I'll be in Scotland. That also means the 1 year anniversary of starting the In-N-Out thing will pass us by on May 10th. We're at 44 original numbers. That gives an original number about every 8 days. Of course the next year probably won't be as giving.

Wow, one day short of a month since the last new number (which of course was the glorious #1). I've definitely been during that time though, just have gotten a few duplicates.

So let's start with the fries. They were pretty good, didn't need much additional S&P and cooked nicely. But the burger is where the lower score comes from. This was my first "lop-sided" protein style burger. If you look at the picture you will notice you can barely see what's inside. The burger/cheese/tomato basically slid all the way down, so my first few bites were of just lettuce. Also the tomato was not completely rip and so it was a bit hard for a few bites towards the center.

All in all though I still enjoyed the meal. The best thing of interest I have for this one is that it was the first picture taken w/ my new phone. Other than that the trip was pretty normal.

So the food was actually pretty good. I went with Protein style again, which I have to reiterate I am enjoying a lot. There isn't really anything to say negative about the "burger". I had to take a tomato slice off but that was about it. Flavor wise maybe just a bit too much lettuce, then again I was also eating the sides where the burger doesn't reach. The fries were cooked pretty much how I like them, but unfortunately for this review had absolutely no salt or pepper. If they came how they were after I put S&P on this review could have been as high as 9.75 or dare I say perfect http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HnYDq95IVdE.

My wife got a cheeseburger with whole grilled onions (where they grill the onion rings rather than giving you chopped onions) and pickles. She liked the onions (even questioned what she had been missing her whole life) but could do without the pickles. She also got that extra sauce packet to use on her fries.

What else is there to say? It was completely random that we went out to eat on a Wednesday. In-N-Out was just one of the options http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FGBhQbmPwH8. The timing just ended up perfect I guess. We were thinking about getting a root beer float after our meal, but then decided against it because it would mean that we'd get another number. And I didn't want to spoil to excitement of #1 with the possibility of getting a duplicate.

Just realized this is the only photo with somebody else's food in it, "Yay wifey" - My Wife. Now let's hope #1 doesn't come again until I have all 99 numbers.

'Til next time...http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=C-u5WLJ9Yk4
