I decided to try something that I haven't tried in many years, a Double-Double. And here are the results...

Burger - Well, I now remember why I don't get the Double-Double. There is way too much meat and cheese on that thing. And you can taste the burnt parts of the meat more and all the extra cheese sticks in your mouth. At that point you can barely taste the bun, lettuce and tomato. So how do I rate this thing? Well, it was messy. It tasted OK overall. Maybe I should have left the extra tomato on this time. Could have used more lettuce as well to offset all the meat. It's not that the burger itself was gross, I just felt gross eating it. Presentation wise it looked fine, nothing out of the ordinary. Picking it up I instantly could tell it was heavier than a normal cheeseburger. Texture wise it was mostly fine. Maybe a bit one note because there wasn't much lettuce so everything was fairly soft. Man, I'll never get one of these things again.

Taste - 1.4 (out of 2)
Texture - 1.5 (out of 2)
Presentation - .8 (out of 1)

Fries - On the other hand, these fries were near perfect. They had the great crispy texture on the outside but not dry on the outside. I added salt and pepper but I'm considering no longer taking seasoning into consideration as part of the score as I'm almost always adding more.

Taste - 1.8 (out of 2)
Texture - 1.9 (out of 2)

Diet Coke - 1 (out of 1)

I don't think there was anything interesting. I should have taken a picture of the dog at the table next to us. He was giving me a look almost the entire time. Also, the guys at the counter are starting to remember me. One mentions my "cool" shirts and this time the guy asked where I worked. Apparently he's neighbors with a coworker of mine.

I'm a few days late on this one, my bad. I hope it doesn't affect the accuracy of my review.

Burger - It was nothing extraordinary but it was still pretty good even by In-N-Out standards. Not enough lettuce for my liking and it was a fair bit lopsided as I probably had a good three bites of just bun at the end. Well I would have if I bothered to eat the just bun bites. I do remember the bun edges being pretty toasted to the point of being hard.

Taste - 1.75 (out of 2)
Texture - 1.6 (out of 2)
Presentation - .75 (out of 1)

Fries - These were some of the absolute best fries I've ever had at In-N-Out. Honestly, outside of maybe needing a bit more salt and pepper there wasn't really anything wrong with them. Texture was great, slightly crispy on the outside and still soft on the inside but not overly dry either.

No In-N-Out Burger isn't closed. And yes I still go every week. It has simply been almost two months since my last original number. So let's get this show on the road!

Burger - I've been mixing it up lately between regular and protein style (always w/ mustard fried though). Today I decided to go regular and I did not regret it. It was one of the better burgers I have probably had in months. Really there were only three specific things wrong (other than the double tomato but that doesn't count). First, the edges of the bun was too crispy. This is why I have tried light toast before but unfortunately I'm not a fan of that either. Second, there wasn't enough lettuce. I like a hefty amount of lettuce on my burger and there wasn't even enough to last the whole meal in this one. Lastly, the tomato was a bit hard. It didn't taste bad in any way though, just towards the center was a bit tougher than I like. Despite all of this though it was delicious and was probably the most mustard I've had on the burger since I've been ordering mustard fried.

Taste - 1.8 (out of 2)
Texture - 1.6 (out of 2)
Presentation - .8 (out of 1)

Fries - The fries were also some of the best I've had in a long time. I didn't put any salt or pepper on them, which rarely happens. They tasted great to me and I think the only thing that would have made it better is if they were a bit crispier on the outside. While they weren't all that crispy they also weren't too flimsy/mushy either, not like a wet noodle or anything.

Taste - 1.9 (out of 2)
Texture - 1.7 (out of 2)

Diet Coke - 1 (out of 1)

So this meal almost reached a 9 but couldn't quite get there. Sometimes I question how much I really like In-N-Out and then I have a meal like this and it reminds me why I go every week. So was there anything interesting this time? Nothing interesting really, but it was the first time sitting at the stools with more than just myself during a lunch visit. I like to get my seats quick so when I saw they stools were empty I just sat down. Sure we probably could have found a table eventually, but why hassle when you can just relax?

Well it's been a while. So long in fact that I hope I remember the rating system I made, as I think it only got used a couple of times so far. The previous original number was actually July 22nd. Let's hope now is the start of another new number streak.

Burger - Sometimes I wish my duplicates were original numbers because they are so good that I want to review them. And sometimes I wish the original was a dupe because it's nowhere near as good as it could have been. The burger wasn't actually that bad, but the bun was super toasted and I'm not a fan of the crunchy bun. They always just feel/taste stale to me. When eating the center of the burger and not the edges everything tasted great. It was a bit messy as well, but I don't usually consider that in the rating because that's probably more "user error" than anything.

Taste - 1.7 (out of 2)
Texture - 1.25 (out of 2)
Presentation - .9 (out of 1)

Fries - The fries were pretty good today. Of course that was after putting on salt and pepper. But texture wise and "base" flavor they were good. Slightly crispy on the outside but not too dry on the inside. Even I'll admit sometimes the fries can be very blah, but this was not one of those times.

Taste - 1.5 (out of 2)
Texture - 1.8 (out of 2)

Diet Coke - 1 (out of 1)

Unfortunately the first new number in a while was not accompanied by anything interesting. There wasn't even something worth noting to the smallest degree. What a shame.

I'm so close.

But yet so far. I thought I might be wrapping up with my Android project today and while I have all the functionality there I just have some issues with some of the way information is given to the user. I need to fix that and I don't feel like it tonight, so I'll try tomorrow.

Tomorrow is also a day where I will be going to In-N-Out Burger. This gives me a chance to ask a question or two of them as it could benefit my project. Also, let's hope for an original number.

Monday, August 29, 2011

I'll have a...

Cheeseburger w/ tomato and pickles only.

Project Android Burger is getting ever so close to the finish line. Yes the above fake order is related.

Android Burger...

I think I had a productive day on the little Android/In-N-Out project. It's coming along nicely and I'm shooting for my first reveal sometime over this coming weekend. I'm starving for screen space though and I'm not sure how I'm going to cram everything on a single page and still look good.

Also, I realize that's crazy vague but I am really trying to keep this under wraps until I'm good to go w/ it. I'm really excited about working on this and it's gotta look nice, have a good feel, and make sense before I show it off.

Tuesday, August 16, 2011

Blah blah buhlah

Going this long without an original number is really starting to bog down this blog

:(

I've come to give you a glimmer of hope. First, I am looking forward to my In-N-Out adventures this week. I feel that I will prevail! I'll even go out on a limb and say I'll get #78. But second, I have a little project going on that combines two of my favorite loves. What are those you ask? Well number one is obviously In-N-Out Burger. The second is Android. My plan is to merge them into one giant burger android.

Not really, but I am doing something in my free time that combines the two of them. It's nowhere near close to being ready for showtime though, so be patient!

Guest #8, your order is ready.

Overall Rating: 9.25/10

To start, not only is eight my favorite number but this is the 50th number meaning I have officially passed the half way mark to the goal! It's been one year, two months and 11 days since this all started. Which means I am averaging a new number once every 8.7 or so days. Otherwise known as "slow". Now on to the review...

Burger - This was a very good burger. Once again I could taste some of the mustard. The tomato was good as was the lettuce. The bun wasn't overly toasted, the burger wasn't over done. Really the only think I could say negative is that the lettuce was piled on directly in the center, making some rearrangement necessary to spread it out. And I'm not sure why this ended up happening, but I probably had a few good bites left but no meat to go with the rest of the ingredients.

Taste - 1.95 (out of 2)
Texture - 2 (out of 2)
Presentation - .9 (out of 1)

Fries - Cooked better than they have been recently and the initial flavor was pretty good. I only ended up putting a small amount of salt and pepper on them. Some of the better fries I've had recently. Texture wise there was a few soggy ones, but taken as a whole it was a good day for the fries.

Taste - 1.7 (out of 2)
Texture - 1.7 (out of 2)

Diet Coke - 1 (out of 1)

So wow, the best score since the start of the In-N-Out Burger scale. Last time I was saying how we could come close to breaking the 8 point mark and here we go a bit over 9! It really was a quality meal. Only interesting thing was some guy from New York came outside to ask some other customer what kind of dog she had. She asked if he was from Boston...I wonder if that's insulting to a New Yorker.

Apologies for the tardiness of this review (the meal was two days ago). Also, I'd like to preface the review by saying the most exciting thing to happen was the fact that I nearly ripped my receipt in half when I got home. I try not to crumple the receipts but all I really do is put them in my back pocket so I guess it was bound to happen sometime.

Burger - I have to say this was one of the best burgers I have had in recent times. Though there were issues, they were relatively minor in the grand scheme of things. For instance, the tomato wasn't ripe and the center of it was fairly hard. Also, as you might be able to see by the picture, the lettuce wasn't that great either as it had a large hard white part. Oddly enough though this didn't seem to affect the texture too much. However, flavor wise this burger was great. I tasted the mustard grilled for only the second time since I've been getting it and I really think it adds to the burger.

Taste - 1.9 (out of 2)
Texture - 1.5 (out of 2)
Presentation - .8 (out of 1)

Fries - Cooked better this time than the last few times. They weren't very crisp but at least they weren't soggy and flimsy. Nor were they dry. A bit crispier and they might have been near perfect texture wise. Flavor wise they needed some salt and pepper but not bad overall.

Taste - 1.5 (out of 2)
Texture - 1.6 (out of 2)

Diet Coke - .5 (out of 1)
Was one of the rare times the syrup/water ratio was out of balance.

Oh man, if the Diet Coke tasted like normal this would have been an over 8 on the In-N-Out scale. Maybe next time.

Another new number so soon. We're coming up on 50, otherwise known as the halfway point.

Burger - The burger was pretty good this time around, but nothing about it really shouted out "hey this is delicious". It was technically sound with minor faults. All the ingredients were placed on the burger properly but I did end up with one bite of just bun left. Again, taste wise nothing popped and I would say the biggest negative would be the the effect that a slightly over toasted bun has (I call that the grilled cheese effect). That slightly over toasted bun comes into play with the texture as well as it makes the edges of the bun pretty stiff. A lot of less-green lettuce as well, causing a slight dip in taste.

Taste - 1.6 (out of 2)
Texture - 1.5 (out of 2)
Presentation - .9 (out of 1)

Fries - I have to say these might have been the worst french fries I've had at In-N-Out Burger. But this is why this new scoring systems exist, because the worst In-N-Out fries are still better than most other fast food fries. Taste wise they were actually pretty good. I added pepper but no salt. However, they had some atrocious texture. They are even more limp and "soggy" than the last visit. The only thing that could have been worse would have been completely under-cooked fries that were still frozen or cold. Somehow these weren't under-cooked, just had a really bad texture. The good taste really saved this part of the meal.

Taste - 1.6 (out of 2)
Texture - .5 (out of 2)

Diet Coke - 1 (out of 1)

As far as interesting goes there wasn't much as we sat outside. Thought this was a dinner visit. And on the Fourth of July, which I found it odd that In-N-Out was open on as they are closed most holidays.

Overall Rating: 7.4/10
Welcome to the new ratings system. The overall rating is the ratings in each category put together totaling a score out of 10. Keep in mind this means the "average" score will be lower than it has been, as I believe I haven't rated a meal lower than 7.8 previously. I'll continue to put the overall at the top as I'm sure some people just want to see that and not the details. Onto the review...

Burger - I actually tried something new this time, extra spread. Was it worth it? Not really. It made the burger an awful lot more soggy than usual. On the upside the bun had a great texture, it was nice and soft without feeling like it wasn't toasted. The extra spread gave a couple bites a bit of an extra sour taste which I wasn't sure if I liked or not. On the presentation side everything looked fine and was centered properly, but I think the extra spread hurt it a bit.

Taste - 1.5 (out of 2)
Texture - 1.5 (out of 2)
Presentation - .9 (out of 1)

Fries - Taste wise the fries were OK and as is the norm I had to add some salt and pepper. Texture wise they were really flimsy and mostly mushy. I usually don't eat the super skinny crispy bits but I ate a few this time just to give myself some crunch.

Taste - 1.5 (out of 2)
Texture - 1 (out of 2)

Diet Coke - 1 (out of 1)

Was there anything interesting? Not really, but it was the busiest I've seen this In-N-Out in a few weeks. The most interesting thing was coming up with the new ratings system.

Guest #47, your order is ready.

Rating: 9.15/10

Not quite a 9.25 for only a few reasons. First, the fries were pretty good, but still needed plenty of S&P applied. Also, while they were some of the better cooked fries they still weren't perfect. But taste is the predominant factor here so I couldn't mark off too much cause they still tasted good.

The burger was mostly just right. Good amount of lettuce, the tomato was ripe, everything was centered properly and I only ended up with maybe one bite of just bun leftover. Though for some reason it did seem a bit messy. Maybe if I had an easier time eating it I would have rated it higher. Then again the messiness and/or difficulty in eating properly could have been because of my mutilated finger.

On that note the burger did have something interest. For once I tasted the mustard part of the mustard fried. I have to say I liked tasting just a hint of mustard underneath the meat and sauce flavors. I hope it comes through in future orders.

I'm wondering if I should implement something new in these reviews to give them more meat. Before when there was at least one new number a week it was ok to be brief. But now getting a new number every two weeks at best they just feel lacking. Especially when nothing of interest actually happens during the visit.

Sadly I can't remember too many details about this meal, despite it being just two days ago. What I do remember is it tasted pretty good. You'll notice I went with a regular burger instead of protein style or no/light toast. The burger was nicely cooked with a good mix of everything, except maybe a bit too much secret sauce. The fries were pretty good and I don't think I had to put any salt or pepper on them. Though they did have a slightly off texture to them.

This was actually my 2nd trip since getting back from UK and it was almost as good as the first one. It also means it's my first original number in like a month. The interesting thing about this visit is something that I don't recall every happening to me before. When I went and got my burger then sat down I realized there were a ton of griller onions on it. I definitely do not order onions, ever, so for what I believe is the first time In-N-Out mixed up my order with somebody else's. I know they didn't mess up the order itself, as the receipt definitely shows WO, meaning without onions.

So yeah.

Hey look at that, a bun! Giving this meal a fairly low score mostly because it just didn't "stand out". There wasn't much memorable about it. The lettuce wasn't very green. The secret sauce was actually kind of sour tasting, like maybe too much pickle? Also, I tried the bun with "light toast" this time, but it was barely more toast than "no toast". As a matter of fact I wouldn't be surprised if they misread it to be "no toast".

The fries were actually pretty good despite looking like they were undercooked. I didn't end up using the salt packet, though I did put some pepper on them. And the soda was as it should be.

Here's an interest note somewhat related to this visit. It's likely my last In-N-Out trip for 3 weeks as I'll be in Scotland. That also means the 1 year anniversary of starting the In-N-Out thing will pass us by on May 10th. We're at 44 original numbers. That gives an original number about every 8 days. Of course the next year probably won't be as giving.

Wow, one day short of a month since the last new number (which of course was the glorious #1). I've definitely been during that time though, just have gotten a few duplicates.

So let's start with the fries. They were pretty good, didn't need much additional S&P and cooked nicely. But the burger is where the lower score comes from. This was my first "lop-sided" protein style burger. If you look at the picture you will notice you can barely see what's inside. The burger/cheese/tomato basically slid all the way down, so my first few bites were of just lettuce. Also the tomato was not completely rip and so it was a bit hard for a few bites towards the center.

All in all though I still enjoyed the meal. The best thing of interest I have for this one is that it was the first picture taken w/ my new phone. Other than that the trip was pretty normal.

Duplicates and Five Guys

So two quick notes prior to posting the next original #. First, I had a duplicate or two recently that I unfortunately forgot the numbers to. I'll have to find out what dates they were on so I can at least keep track of the number of visits.

Second, I tried Five Guys. It's a burger place that started on the east coast and has made its way west. People rave about it and for some reason compare to In-N-Out, despite the burgers and fries being drastically different. I'll keep my review of them quick. I liked the burger, had a different taste than In-N-Out and one I would eat again. Main differences being bacon and mayonnaise. The fries though were bottom of the barrel. They are much thicker than In-N-Out, already a minus for me. Plus they were just really bland and I had to use heavy amounts of ketchup to make them taste ok, even the "cajun" spiced ones.

So yeah, that's my quick update.

...How am I supposed to start this review? It's barely been any time since I got #99, who would have ever thought #1 would come so quick?
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gyUWkQj0Q_U

The first point of interest comes right away, as my wife pointed out as we were waiting for our food that if I didn't let this woman go in front of us I would have gotten #99. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KNZH-emehxA

So the food was actually pretty good. I went with Protein style again, which I have to reiterate I am enjoying a lot. There isn't really anything to say negative about the "burger". I had to take a tomato slice off but that was about it. Flavor wise maybe just a bit too much lettuce, then again I was also eating the sides where the burger doesn't reach. The fries were cooked pretty much how I like them, but unfortunately for this review had absolutely no salt or pepper. If they came how they were after I put S&P on this review could have been as high as 9.75 or dare I say perfect http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HnYDq95IVdE.

My wife got a cheeseburger with whole grilled onions (where they grill the onion rings rather than giving you chopped onions) and pickles. She liked the onions (even questioned what she had been missing her whole life) but could do without the pickles. She also got that extra sauce packet to use on her fries.

What else is there to say? It was completely random that we went out to eat on a Wednesday. In-N-Out was just one of the options http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FGBhQbmPwH8. The timing just ended up perfect I guess. We were thinking about getting a root beer float after our meal, but then decided against it because it would mean that we'd get another number. And I didn't want to spoil to excitement of #1 with the possibility of getting a duplicate.

Just realized this is the only photo with somebody else's food in it, "Yay wifey" - My Wife. Now let's hope #1 doesn't come again until I have all 99 numbers.

'Til next time...http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=C-u5WLJ9Yk4

Surprise super late Friday night update! And it was worth the trip considering the meal was tasty and it was an original number.

So, if you can see the picture you'll have noticed I went protein style again. You'll also notice two tomato slices. I promptly removed one of them. I'm really enjoying these protein style "burgers". This time the cheese was melted a bit more so it didn't just feel like a slice of cold cheese was put on there. Also felt like there was less secret sauce which might have normally meant less messy, but towards the end everything was just falling apart and being sloppy anyways. As far as the rating goes, the burger is what pushed it over a 9. It just tasted really good.

On the other hand you have the nicely cooked but horribly salted fries. And by that I mean there was little to no salt and absolutely no trace of pepper. I wonder what the pepper protocol at In-N-Out is, because sometimes there isn't even a single pepper flake and other times the fries are heavy on the pepper. Either way, if the fries were just a bit better I might have rated this meal a 9.5, but that lack of salt really killed the rating.

More interesting bits than I've had in recent visits. There was a homeless guy who came in and got a coffee. I feel like I've seen him there during other night time In-N-Out runs. Friday night is popular with the high school crowd. I'm pretty sure somebody that was dining in was yelling at somebody who was in the drive thru that they apparently knew. I guess that's it really.

I have a better picture of the receipt, but only 3/4 of the burger made it into that picture so I decided to post this one instead.

Went w/ mustard fried again. I honestly can't really taste it so I'm just going to keep ordering it until I do. The amount of lettuce on the burger was great. There was even only one tomato on it so I had very little "prep" work to do before eating. The one issue that nearly ruined the burger was the bun. They toasted it for way too long and around all of the edge it was not just toasted, but hard. It was unfortunate because otherwise it was one of the best In-N-Out burgers I have had.

The fries were also pretty good. They were cooked almost perfectly, not dry and overdone but not mushy either. They even had enough salt and pepper on them so that I didn't have to add any. And the soda was standard.

And there was absolutely nothing of interest during this trip. I can't recall anything about the people around me other than this one guy leaning on the counter right next to the stool I was sitting on. He was basically a foot away from me. I know it's there and you're waiting for your food, but I wish people wouldn't insist on being so close.

Oh yeah, this is the 40th original number! Only 59 more to go.

I think the messiness of the burger today affected the score plus it was one of those days where everything was good, better than usual possibly, just not "great".

And I tried something different again today, which you can't really tell from looking at the food. I tried "mustard grilled" which is where they put mustard on the burger when grilling it. And I know it was done because I checked the burger patty itself but yet I couldn't really taste any hint of mustard. Kind of strange really. But other than the messiness of the burger I wouldn't really say anything was wrong with it.

The fries were pretty spot on as well with only a couple of them being under cooked. Sure I had to add my own S&P but it's rare I don't have to do that. Sometimes I think that maybe I shouldn't include that in my rating, but then I think that the "perfect" meal should be rated on how it's given to me. One day In-N-Out will give me a 10/10 meal, I believe it.

Nothing really interesting unfortunately. Went with a few guys from work that I haven't gone with before, as well as a few that I have. Crammed six of us into one outside table. Also I am pretty sure somebody in my group was #1 as I know somebody was #99. Ah well, maybe next time.

And on the 289th day, it was told that he would receive one of the two most important numbers. And this number would be...number 99! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jQYQTFudrqc

Also, I tried something different today again. Notice the receipt states "no_toast", meaning the bun was not toasted. Honestly though, I have to say In-N-Out Burger knows what they are doing toasting the bun. Sometimes it can be too hard or taste like a grilled cheese, but without it toasted the bun just feels doughy or something. Other than that the lettuce was kind of weak (i.e. not very green and not too much of it).

The fries were cooked pretty nicely, but of course needed some S&P. And the Diet Coke actually tasted slightly off. But hey, it wasn't the worst meal I've had. Warning, explicit language incoming http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WwoM5fLITfk

So I didn't see anything too interesting. Just a group of teenage school girls getting the In-N-Out hats and putting them on. I guess that's interesting.

So whose placing bets for when #1 happens? Well tonight this happens http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pnuijDieOvY

Oh yeah, the real rating is only 8/10

#54, another dupe...BUT WAIT

Special Ultra Deluxe Duplicate Review (dedicated to my sister in law)

Rating: 8.5 / 10

Notice anything about the burger? Well, other than the meat missing (it is actually in there somewhere). For the first time in history I tried my burger "Protein Style". For the people who don't know what this is, it's just replacing the bun with lettuce. So then how did I like it?

Let's get everything else out of the way. The fries were pretty much cooked just right, but like almost always needed some S&P. The drink was just fine and tasted perfectly normal (Diet Coke will never taste above "normal", so as long as it doesn't taste bad it's "perfect").

The "burger" was pretty good honestly. There's a lot of issues with it but the overall taste I enjoyed. To start with there is two tomatoes. I decided to at least try it with both to see how the intended format of Protein Style was. Honestly, the two tomatoes gave it too much of a sour taste. Could have been bad tomatoes but I've never been one for two slices anyways. After taking one slice off the taste improved multiple times over. So what's wrong with the Protein Style then? It's messy. The sauce really has nowhere to go but down, so holding from the sides is a must. And the major issue is that since you don't have a warm bun surrounding everything the ingredients don't stay warm as long. Especially when you factor in that the warm bun has been replaced with lettuce that has ice in its very name. Also, taking out the bun makes it a bit less filling.

So will I ever get this again? Yes. But I will not get it at lunch when I am at work, as I don't get home before the hunger kicks in later in the day. Which maybe means more weekend trips and when I consider the fact that it tastes quite a bit different than a normal hamburger, we could be getting back to twice a week In-N-Out more often.

Guest #72, your order is ready.

Rating: 9/10

So today I had my heart set on In-N-Out, meaning I had to turn down an invitation to The Counter from fellow co-workers. I like The Counter, but when I'm desiring In-N-Out I'll just end up disappointed.

And honestly, I made the right decision. Why? Because this was one of the best burgers I've had at In-N-Out. Almost everything about it was perfect. Perfect topping amounts, bun wasn't over toasted. Matter of fact the only thing I would say was wrong with the burger would be overdone edges. But had this meal been burger alone, it would be a 9.5/10. Instead the fries were also mostly great. I didn't add any S&P, which is like a once in every 30 visits type of event. But they were just a bit overdone.

I'd say two interesting things. First would be the guys next to me were talking about videogames and sex. I eavesdrop a lot in public (I get bored) and I was so confused by these two guys. Anyways, the other interesting thing would be #73 was called for like 5 minutes before the person showed up. It was a to go order and they walked around all the inside and outside calling the number and order description out. I wonder where that guy was that whole time? Maybe he REALLY had to go to the bathroom?

I've been really unlucky w/ duplicates lately. Looking at my photo history I think I've had 1 original # each of the last 4 months if you include February. Lets hope my remaining visits of this month prove fruitful.

#28...dupity dupe

I'm pretty sure not only was #28 my first dupe, but now my first dupe of a dupe. Blargh.

Guest #12, your order is ready.

Rating: 8.75/10

I wonder if I really have to put the "/10" part of the rating these days. Anyways, it's been a while, woo hoo a new number. I feel like I've had duplicates like 5 times in a row. It's been a bad run that's for sure.

On to the meal. Same old same old really. Had to remove a tomato. But the burger, other than a bit of the hard edges on the bun, was pretty good. The fries also seemed slightly more cooked than usual, giving them a bit of a crunch. It wasn't bad, just a bit different, which can be good. Though it did lead to them tasting a bit...stale, or something, towards the end.

It was a windy day, hence me having to hold the receipt. Actually, I took 3 pictures. One was fine outside of not having the time in it. The other the receipt was all bent over. So I just said the heck with it, I'll hold the darned thing.

This was also the largest crowd I've gone with. 8 people including myself, all 7 others were coworkers. Other point of interest would be this is now my only oddly sized receipt that isn't a duplicate, due to the gift card.

One of my coworkers got some Animal Style fries which sparked a discussion about them and why I don't like them. He said I should explain why I don't like animal style fries and how I think they could be improved. So let's do it. As we all know, I love In-N-Out Burger fries. One day I decided to try the animal style, no onions. I'm not a big onion fan, and I don't get onions on my burger. But I do love the "secret sauce" and some cheeses, mostly cheddar. So then what happened? Two big issues. First being that the sauce was cold. I assume this is how it always is, but I didn't ask my coworker to vouch for me. Now on my burger it's fine like that, but for whatever reason it did not play well on my fries, at least not according to my taste buds. It also seemed to help the American cheese solidify quicker. Now, I don't like American cheese. I pretty much only ever eat it on In-N-Out Burgers. Everything about the burger helps to mask how horrible American cheese is. And I'm sure cheddar would make the burger taste completely different, and well, wrong. But for the fries I feel that a room temp or warm sauce over some cheddar cheese would be the best. If they ever come out with that, call it "Monster Style" or something else cheesy (crap, no pun intended), then I'll be all over it.

Until next time, which is hopefully much sooner that it was since the last time.

#83...

Was a duplicate. I have tentative plans to go tomorrow even though #83 was just 2 days ago. Quite frankly, it's been pretty tasty the last couple of times. When it tastes like an 8.5 or above, it makes me want to go more often.
